Description
Premium Clay Sponge — Advanced Paint Decontamination Tool
Product overview
The Premium Clay Sponge is a refined decontamination implement designed to safely remove bonded surface contaminants — industrial fallout, rail dust, brake dust, overspray, tar micro‑spots and embedded particulate — from clearcoated and single‑stage paint finishes. Constructed from a durable, low‑abrading elastomeric material, the sponge restores tactile smoothness and optimises surface readiness for polishing, sealing or ceramic coating without aggressive cutting.
Key benefits
– Efficient removal of embedded contaminants without heavy abrasion
– Restores smooth surface texture to improve gloss and uniformity
– Prepares paint for subsequent corrective polishing, protection or coating application by improving adhesion and appearance
– User‑friendly format reduces contamination pickup compared with traditional clay bars and is easier to handle around complex panel edges
Recommended procedure
1. Preparation: Thoroughly wash and rinse the vehicle to remove loose dirt and grit. Dry or leave suitably wet per lubricant instructions. Work in a shaded, dust‑free environment and ensure panels are cool to the touch.
2. Lubrication: Generously apply a dedicated lubricant such as Comet Quick Detailer to the target panel. Adequate lubrication is essential to prevent marring and to allow the sponge to glide freely.
3. Working technique: Use the Premium Clay Sponge one panel at a time. With moderate, consistent pressure, move the sponge in slow, overlapping strokes across the panel until the surface feels uniformly smooth to the touch. Reapply lubricant as required — never allow the sponge to run dry on the paint.
4. Inspection: Periodically wipe the panel with a clean microfibre towel to check progress. If heavy contamination persists, repeat the process rather than increasing pressure.
5. Final cleanse: After decontamination, rinse the panel and perform a final wipe with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) panel wipe or surface prep solution if the surface will be polished or coated.
Maintenance and care
– Rinse the sponge frequently during use to remove trapped contaminants; replace lubricant solution as required.
– After use, rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soils, gently squeeze out excess moisture and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. Do not machine wash or use solvents to clean the sponge.
– Inspect for embedded grit or damage before each use; discard and replace if the surface becomes contaminated or deteriorated.
Precautions
– Do not use excessive force or abrasive compounds with the sponge — it is a decontamination tool, not a cutting/polishing medium.
– Avoid use on unpainted plastics, matte or textured finishes without prior spot testing.
– Always use adequate lubrication to prevent marring.
– Keep out of reach of children and store in a clean, dry place.
